Unless there’s video I’m not buying it went off when dropped.
There are very very few guns that’ll do that. I’m betting he was fooling with it.
Anyway he’s a dipsh!t and deserves everything he’s gonna get.

This is some BS to show guns are bad and no one should have one. Give me freedom or give me death

I agree. It can happen in rare instances with a broken firing pin lodged outwards and the right vibration. But a gun discharging from being dropped.. doesn't sound like a modern gun he was carrying. Maybe some ancient pocket Colt or Browning.

Agreed, it would be extremely rare for a dropped gun to go off. That website should be the first to call that out instead of just printing it.

There was obviously a mistake made either in handling the firearm or in the choice - or lack - of the holster. Then there's the "carrying a firearm into a school building" aspect, which means this guys summer plans are toast.

16 million new to guns owners and half female in the last few years, there's a lot of folks climbing the learning curve, and its not going away. At least its not women brandishing guns at each other for getting cut off in the school pickup lane. Yes, they were charged too with the likely result of losing their CCW, which could happen in this case, too.

Concealed means concealed . . . including using a holster that wont eject a gun into a school building hallway.

like that one song, I'm not sure this fits the definition of irony.

interesting how the embedded video in the story showing the fed agent doing a backflip and losing his firearm. the story claims the agent's firearm dropped and discharged. the video shows the firearm dropping but only discharging when the agent grabs it and pulls the trigger.

Nearly anything that presses the trigger to the rear of the trigger guard will cause most guns to fire. We don't need smart guns, just better trained gun owners. Holsters serve several purposes. Safely orient the gun and good ones cover the trigger. Even when I pocket carry it is with a pocket holster.

I'm a big supporter of 2A rights, but there just has to be better (required) training for new gun owners. I was surprised at just how skinny the 'class' was here to get your CCW. It was a joke really - an hour of VERY basic gun handling rules, then off to the range to pop off a few rounds. If you didn't shoot yourself or the instructor - you passed !

In my area, tons of 65+ women taking the class & buying a gun they can put in their purse. There was no mention of proper holstering or even MS. I can only pray the store salesmen are encouraging them to get a holster, but probably not.

I don't know many handgun owners that use "felony carry" instead of even a basic holster, IWB or OWB. the CCW classes around here are 6 hours with mostly classroom safety and technique and then 50 rounds on the range. always 2 instructors when there are more than 6 students or so. CCW in a school is against the law everywhere as far as I know. CCW without a holster is a really bad idea.

We all know how this would go:

Oh it’s required? Half hearted attendees, / instructors, not paying attention in class, smoking in the bathroom, high dropout rates……

Without engaging on the political debate, what was the standard for your course of fire? In Illinois, where I'm licensed, our course of fire is the same as the State Police.

If it's not illegal, why is carrying in a school an issue?

Just what we needed...another nitwit to fuel the anti-gun'ers...

If I was in a theater I'd swear we're in a scripted movie...

Agree 100%. Recently had an arrest here locally of a man who had dropped a KAHR PM9 down in his pants pocket with his keys and change, etc. Going through the Wally checkout and reached for his keys.... BOOM. The only casualties were the floor, a wall, and mostly likely his carry permit.

About 20yrs ago I worked at two different indoor ranges. The guns available at that point I saw many dropped on the line even cocked revolvers. NONE of them ever just ‘went off’, none.
