Gunbroker question

1497 Views 29 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  organ
Had won a p320rx yesterday for what I thought was a decent price. Now this morning I get an email from the guy saying it was sold locally...I'm sure this happens all the time because the seller wasn't happy with the sale price.

What should I do about this? I'm sure there's really nothing I can do. Just wondering if there was a way to make it still look like a sale to gunbroker so he has to pay fee's still?

He asked how he can make it up to me...I haven't responded yet. He could be genuine and it was sold but I doubt it. He's trying to say an employee put it in the display case and sold it when it was supposed to be in the safe...well I tried calling there yesterday to pay for it and they aren't even a gun store. I looked into what they were because of what was said when they answered. She was directing me to the guy that was selling it because I said it was for a gun on gunbroker and she said that it was the owners and I would need to speak to him. I would think if they sold guns, I would need to tell her which auction and she could process.

Any opinions on how to proceed?

Contact Gun Broker, about it. Sometimes, it's in the "fine print", but in many instances, if there is bidding on line for it, the vendor is supposed to pull it from local sales, if I understand correctly. If there wasn't any bids prior to local sale, then it would be no problem. But again check with Gun Broker, as they are the arbitrator between the buyer and seller.

I suppose you could see what he wants to do to make it up for you but I wouldn’t, lot of double speak in what he told you.
Leave a negative review about how he runs his site and move on. It’s not like SIG only made a thousand of em, another will pop up soonly I’m sure.

He never had anything in the listing about it being for sale locally...I've seen those before. I put a bud in right after it was listed.

It's stupid that I'm even upset about it but I just can't stand when people don't stick to their word...what I mean (but can't be positive) is that it didn't bring the money he wanted or was expecting or lost too much that it all of a sudden was sold locally! But again, I had bid on it right when it was listed.

I've never had it happen on Gunbroker, but I've had it happen on eBay and some other sites. People post an item for sale on multiple sites and it sells on one then they either forget, neglect to, or didn't have time to end all the other postings.

Look at the seller rating and if it's overall positive, I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

I don't think it's "stupid" at all. I'd be POed too!

Not sure I'd go very far letting him "make it right" either. There are two kinds of people in this world. People I can trust and people I refuse to do business with.

It's the Principle, and I agree, your poor review of the seller, won't necessarily help you, but it may save someone else down the road.

Yeah- I think about all you can do is give it a poor rating.
I'd be upset too....but not much can be done.

At least GB will get the message if you post a bad rating and the REASON is you won the bid and now there is NO merchandise.

I thought about asking him to send pics of his display case to make a deal on another gun because I'm willing to bet they don't even sell anything there, the contact info is to the guys business so he can accept credit cards. He doesn't sell much and everything is worded as personal...sits in "HIS" safe, "I" bought, "I didn't only shot, etc.
I'm a personal seller. I flip a lot of guns. I buy them, get all excited about them, shoot them a few times, the the new wears off and I sell them. I've sold a lot of great guns that were basically like brand new just because they were safe queens. I'm a shooter, not a collector. If something isn't getting shot regularly...it's getting sold.

Thank you!!! It is principal...couldn't convey that because I'm not thinking straight. It really upsets me the more that I think about it because I missed out on other auctions because I had bought this.

That answered my question. He should have specified that its for sale locally and he reserves the right to end the auction. yada yada yada.

I feel sure it didnt sell locally. he just didnt like the final sales price. Theres not really much you can do.
I know this is "easier said, than done", but you need to just let it go, and not let it bother you

I had a DW ECO get bid up in the last minutes. It was almost certainly him trying to run the price up.
It popped up again for sale 3 months later. Scumbag

Give him an F and explain why you gave him an F on his feedback. I don't like to do that but if he is a real dealer he knows the rules. He might give you and F too, they sometimes do that just to get some payback for their wrong doing.
Messy situation. Another “it depends” answer. If it were me, I’d take a close look at his reviews and track record. Is there a pattern? If it’s extensive and clean in probably give him the benefit of the doubt and see what he is willing to do to “make it right”. If he has a shotty track record I still ask what he is willing to do but will leave a negative review if he doesn’t pull a rabbit out of his ***.
That happened to me on a rare P226 on Gunbroker about 3 or 4 years ago. I'm still mad as hell about it.

Maybe I missed it in the replies.

What's his rating? FFL? Other instances from past auctions? Things do happen and it may have been an honest mistake. If there's past ratings with the same issue, it's definitely worth telling GB and putting another rating up about your issue.
This happened to me on GB as well, exact same scenario. Mine was being sold by an individual, not a shop...now I only buy from GB if it's a shop and has good reviews.
Well good luck contacting GB. They actually have the worst customer service ever! At least you didn't send any money! I would give him a negative feedback for not completing the auction per the rules! That is all you can really do. Once again at least you still have your money!

I just bought a set of grips over there. The seller said oh you can P/P me with friends and family. I politely told him what happens if I don't get the grips? I would be out the money.
Got to be always on the guard when dealing on the internet. Just my .02

This is my rule for GB and complete firearms: must be an FFL.
