Gun Theft Warning - Vehicle thefts

7327 Views 114 Replies 58 Participants Last post by  Sol-Invictus
Saw a spot on local news this morning discussing illegal and stolen guns. Apparently the vast
majority of the daily shootings in my town are using illegal (whatever that means) or stolen guns.

They went on to say most guns are stolen from businesses or vehicles. As for the vehicles
thieves target, vehicles with some type of gun related sticker or political emblems were
the #1 target. NRA, Trump, Sig, or anything gun or politics related.

Sure enough the reporter randomly stopped a few trucks in the parking lot. One had a "thin
blue line" sticker, the other NRA. Both guys said yes they had a gun on board, and neither had
safe in their truck.

I think it's a BIG stretch to make a correlation between logos or stickers and gun thefts,
but it does make sense to an extent.

They also talked about using safes in your vehicle, but that's a tough option to sell. Most safes
are easily removed and the one's that aren't almost have to be custom installed. Not to mention
thieves is the big city come prepared. Sledge hammers and pry bars are their "tools".

Exactly. Book bag has the "valuables". I do my check in, go back to my car and grab my clothes, then to the room I go. Company pays for the tools, so I'm not worried about them. The boss doesn't like firearms. He doesn't like me concealed carrying even while at our warehouse. I laughed about it. I was carrying a Springfield XDs Mod 2 in 9mm, and then switched to a P365. Since making the switch, less profile, and doesn't "pop out from under my shirt" when I lift my arms up to grab various things off shelves.
LOL, good choice switching to the P365!! :p (y)

I normally do not leave a firearm in my car, but occasionally will do so, therefore there is NOTHING on my car that might indicate its presence!

FWIW, I hate putting any type of stickers on my cars anyway, no matter what they may say!

I don't want to lose property, per se, but I really don't want to lose a gun that ends up causing more harm to innocent people because it ends up in the wrong hands.

I have only one sticker on my car -- a small American flag on the back window. I had to replace it a few months ago because someone scratched it part way off the car. I probably should take it off to avoid attracting Progressive Anger.

The comments in this thread remind me that we are all in the same boat. Hey, let's get together and have a legal system that has Police to catch the bad guys and Judges to sentence them to jail if they get caught and prisons to put them into. It could work!

I dunno. I NEVER leave a firearm in my car. If the place has “no guns” stickers, I just don’t go there, or I carry concealed. That IS what the word means. I don’t drink so no worries about restaurants.
<<snip>>
I do the same with any place that is posted. If my weapon is concealed, then they aren't going to be the wiser! The only exceptions are where I have to pass through metal detectors or guarded turnstiles as those are specifically forbidden in the state of Alabama.

It's the best firearm-related thing I've done in quite a few years! After buying mine last year and testing it out for reliability, it has stayed with me pretty much 24/7/365; I very rarely carry anything else. On the rare occasion I need to tuck in my shirt, I will sometimes drop my LCP in my front pocket (in a pocket holster of course) so I don't have to deal with getting my shirt tucked "just right" into my Crossbreed Mini Supertuck holster...

I figure they are after the weed, recreational drugs, or if upscale then the “Medical based hook up for quality prescription abused items”.
Well Hotajax and I went there quickly didn’t we.? Not that we stereotyped by the vehicle 😉

I have safes for my vehicles, but I very rarely ever leave a gun in them, I don't go into federal buildings or property, I don't go into too many places that don't allow me to carry.
Criminals get 80% guns. I have not hear of criminals casing houses and cars for guns. They can buy 80% built guns easy.

I actually have a couple on my back window of my truck. They have been on there since 2010 and have not had any issues. I just do not leave my firearms in my truck and if I do, they are in a safe that that is tied down and very hidden. I would say that is 5% of the time it might be in there if that. It is normally on me or in the house.
I never have decals on my vehicle. It is well known - and should be obvious - that if you have firearm related decals on your vehicle; you're advertising. A thief isn't going to break into a Volkswagen Bug with a sunflower decal looking for a gun, are they?
Ha Ha, no they will not. They might find a half smoked joint, but no gun.
