Gun shipment frustrations

So we all know shipping prices are ridiculous right now, but I'm having a gun
shipped and chose Fedex 2nd day air just so it didn't get caught up in the
process, or worse accidentally "disappear" in the mutiple sorting facilities.

Status? It was "out for delivery" yesterday (the second day), but then changed
to Monday delivery which would be 5 DAYS.

I finally got to speak to a Fedex customer service rep and they confirmed the package is
in town. I then asks her what the point was of 2nd day if Fedex chooses to deliver it
WHENEVER they want. No answer of course, just 15 apologies. Yes it's in town, but
no we're not going to deliver it. She then said "they're busy". Busy?

If you had asked me 5 days ago who was the best and most conscientious shipping company
I would have said FedEx by far. Now they seem to have gone the way of UPS, but of course not
as bad as USPS (which is in cahoots with UPS).

Side note: The other gun related package I'm waiting on was shipped UPS was supposed to be
delivered yesterday as well. Nope. Every time this happens it turns out they transferred it to USPS...
........which means you'll get it whenever.

Say what you want about Amazon but at least when they say you'll get it tomorrow, you
get it tomorrow. Help us all if Bezos starts selling guns

In my area UPS has always been more reliable & on-time than Fedex. For me, Fedex has been no better than USPS.
The worst is any of these combo services where the commercial carrier hands it off the USPS for final delivery, that always adds 2 or 3 days to the transit.

Interesting. I think UPS would be fine in my area if they "didn't" hand it off to the USPS. I see UPS trucks in my area all the time, but they rarely deliver my packages. Must be some arrangement they have with USPS that packages of a certain size/weight get handed off.
Then the waiting starts.

Second day air works where I live. It looks like the FedEx driver makes his delivery on his way home as he always delivers around 4:00 PM except Fridays where it is usually closer to 3:00 PM.

You can have FedEx hold the package at their facility for you to go and collect it. You can also have it transferred to a Walgreens or FedEx Office location for you to pick it up. This is not always a viable option depending on how close you are to any of these locations, but they are options if delivery is failing so badly.

FedEx is also in cahoots with the USPS. They take over "last mile delivery" for a lot of USPS packages.

That I didn't know, but doesn't surprise me. And we all know how efficient our
USPS is

FEDEX is hit and miss in my area. I always add 2 days to any estimated arrival so I don;t go bonkers. Latest: I ordered 2 slide stop springs for a PX4 I am working on from Brownells. Fedex for some reason says they delivered to my front porch last Sunday? at 12:58pm. I was sitting on my porch during that time--no delivery. Brownells so far has no help, of course FEDEX could care less. SO I ordered the part from another vendor. Not out big bucks,,but Fedex somehow looses 1 out of 5 deliveries to my address. I try not to use them.
Couple of things: Not excusing FEDEX, but do you live out in the middle of nowhere? Where is the closest FEDEX depot to you? Ive live in the woodlands texas, and I get everything delivered usually a day earlier than quoted. There is a North Houston depot, and it gets pushed out for delivery immediately.

Also, its definitely NOT the customer service persons fault that they jacked up your delivery. I know you are frustrated, but she cant really do much except provide research and location for your gun

Well as the risk of stooping to accusations, I think some of these drivers help themselves to boxes
marked Brownells, Optics Planet, etc not to mention ammo shipments. Those are coincidentally the
only things I never receive if my shipment goes missing.

There was a thread on here a few months back talking about ammo shipments mysteriously disappearing. :(

But most of those items are already in a warehouse within 50-100 miles of your delivery location.

Probably not a gun... ;)

Even if an FFL, doesn't it have to be delivered to the FFL's physical address? And even if the FFL could go pick it up, I can't imagine any that would do that. I sure wouldn't.
(Unless in state where it's legal to ship to another resident directly.)

You have much better luck with Amazon than I do! When I place an Amazon order I have no idea when the package will actually get to me. Some very rare times it is a day or even 2 days earlier than "promised" but more often there is a delay of the promised day one, two or even three days. And then there is the occasional package that never does show up - until they send out a free replacement a month later, and then a poor, battered, smashed package arrives a day or two after the replacement one. Some still show up in the Prime member 2 day time frame. Some.

One interesting thing of late is that for no obvious reason I occasionally get Sunday deliveries from one or all three of "the delivery services." It's a "go figure" situation but I'm not wasting my few remaining brain cells that way.

LOL, yeah about a year ago Amazon installed a loophole on the 2 day thing
but I don't remember what it is. I think it's now like my Fedex shipment. 2 days,
or whenever we get it to you :p .

I'm surrounded my Amazon distribution facilities so when I order I'm usually looking
for the same day/next day items. It means they have it in stock locally.
I had a gun shipped via FedEx to my FFL and it arrived exactly on time, unmolested.

Another little-known fact about FedEx Ground is that they use subcontractors for deliveries. These subcontractors are required to paint their trucks in FedEx livery, wear FedEx uniforms, and comply with FedEx standards (however low they may be). But the drivers are NOT FedEx employees, receive no benefits from FedEx, and no pay from FedEx. Express is not so convoluted - all trucks are owned/maintained by FedEx and all drivers are actual FedEx employees. I'm sure FedEx Ground benefits financially from this inane practice but it tarnishes the brand IMHO. These subcontractors hire anybody with a pulse, and even a lack of pulse is seemingly negotiable. <cue Billy Crystal> "He's only MOSTLY dead..."

Just curious. Did you request some form of compensation due to the promised 2 day timeframe going to 5+? Partial refund?
I stopped paying for expedited shipping a couple of years ago. Learned pretty quickly that next day and two days no longer mean next day and two days. I just go with the standard shipping and sometimes I get it on the 2nd day anyway.

I don't know where you live has anything to do with this.. but I have excellent time frame from all delivery svc ..
Well except little hiccup for USPS .. :)

Yes, but they said I had to go back to the shipper (the seller). They'd have to file the claim and
in turn refund me. Which I'm sure would only be a partial refund. Probably not even worth the hassle.

West Houston about 50 miles from you. My FFL is Athena Gun range in west houston as well.
no, fedex shipping rates aren't outrageous:

over the last month i've shipped twice thru my ffl/fedex
$50 shipping +$50 ffl fee + insurance ain't bad!!

it depends when the firearm is processed by the ffl/label created/tendered to fedex.

my ffl neither ships/receives on saturday + fedex, won't deliver over the weekend.

get it there thursday, planning on 2 day air....it'll be next week.

op:
complain to whomever you bought it from.
See less See more
FedEx says that 2day is not guaranteed, but I’m pretty sure it’s required when shipping firearms.
