Getting a CCW in a Constitutional Carry state.

I decided to do so.....took the 1 day class last weekend and sent in the packet to the DPS on Monday.

Reasons? 1) Reciprocity when traveling 2) The help it gives you when dealing with police, from being pulled over while carrying to, heaven forbid, being involved in a shooting 3) The ability to walk into a gun store and walk right out. I hate that pesky 10 minute wait for the background check...

Do those of you living in CC states get your CCW permits anyway?

While I prefer to call it permitless carry vs. constitutional carry, I recently acquired a carry permit in my new state of residence, which recently went permitless. This, along with a non-resident permit from Utah, I am good to travel legally in the states I am interested in or need to visit while carrying a defensive firearm.

Yes, I will continue to maintain my Texas LTC, primarily for similar reasons you noted.

I got my Arizona CCW. It lets me carry at my Colorado summer home. Also nice to have at the FFL for a purchase.

Of the thousands of reasons why I left Virginia for my home state of Indiana, the recent enactment of permitless carry is one of them. I occasionally travel to see my sister in Ohio (also a permitless carry state 😃(y)), plus my lifetime permit will never expire, so I see no legitimate reason to get rid of it.

Absolutely will maintain my Texas CHL. For all reasons you stated @AZshooter

Add Texas Law Shield with out of state coverage for the traveling I do.

The "free" carry permit is legal and that's that. I do a 5-year paid permit for all the reasons stated above:

Travel to other states
FFL sales and
What I paid helps our local Sherriff with 'stuff' they need.

I am proud to call it Constitutional carry because in Kansas it is written in our Ks constitution.
Open carry was in our Constitution from the day it was first signed. Citizens have the right to self protect always.

I have a CCL for travel, for Police, and especially if something happens

Wel have life time permits in Indiana, and just went constitutional carry. I would keep my carry permit for travel to other states.

I got my CCW before my state (ID) passed Constitutional Carry. (all I had to do was present my DD214)
Like many comments above, it makes it MUCH easier when dealing with the paperwork at the LGS. I am planning on getting my Enhanced Carry permit soon. This one requires 8 hours of classroom time and a live fire (150 rds) at the range. The enhanced permit has much better reciprocity than the basic.

TN went permitless carry but there are so many restrictions vs. people who have the "enhanced" carry permit that the permitless law is almost meaningless. Likewise for the no classroom or range time basic permit. It's a mess. Best to get the REAL permit. We still have to have the background check and $10 fee when purchasing a gun, permit or no permit.

I'm not saying that permitless carry is bad. It is a baby step in the right direction.

I am also in AZ and continue to maintain my CCW permit. Just renewed a couple months back for another 5 years. If nothing else .. I like walking out of the gunshop with my latest toy without the wait or hassle of the nics check.

Wait, what???

Where do you live where a CCP passes for a 4473?

That said, I live in the original "constitutional carry" state and retain my CCP so as to not scare the snowflakes who have almost taken over the place into clutching their pearls if they spot my open carry.

In Texas you have to fill out a 4473, but with Texas LTC you do not have to wait for any background check, and no hold/waiting period to take the firearm home. I'm typically out the door in less than 10 minutes.

Same in AZ. After 40 years in Commiefornia, it is so refreshing.
