German frame P229

625 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  TigerBW
Did all of the German framed P229's require the thinner pre-229-1 magazines?

Also, whatever the answer does it also apply in the same way for both the 9mm and .40S&W guns and their respective mags?

Thanks

No way to answer you with 100% certainty, but let's just say that I have never seen a German P229 (9) frame that can use the 229-1 mag. The 229-1 deal is SIG USA creation.

The .40/.357 P229's mag well has always been the wider variety and has not changed since the beginning. The mag has always been the same.

Thanks Q. So if I'm understanding you correctly, and speaking strictly about a .40 mag, they will fit into both an Exeter and a German made .40 frame. And both frames and mags are sized exactly as needed to fit snugly?
P229 in 40 is always easy to remember because there has always only been one magazine option.

I think the original 229-9 and 228 shared the same frame.

Indeed. They also shared the same barrel and locking insert.
