Finger Bite With P226

680 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  aclarke333
I recently tried out a P226 and unfortunately it's been the only gun so far that has but my finger. It doesn't get pinched between the bottom of the trigger guard and the trigger though, it actually gets pinched between the back of the trigger guard and the trigger. I'm not sure what's going on here but I guess the trigger isn't wide enough, my finger is too fat?
Would changing to a flat trigger solve the issue? I think it has to do with the fact that in the P226 the trigger literally crashes into the back of the trigger guard when firing. It bites my finger even when only dry firing, but with the recoil from live fire it's much worse.

This may sound like a stupid question, but how much of your trigger finger are you using? Ideally the trigger itself should be centered in the middle of the first joint/pad with the rest of the digit resembling a nice hook or c shape. Not getting this ideal shape combined with the size of your fingers could be the issue.

Your P226 has the short reach trigger (aka thin/skinny trigger)? If so, that is your problem.

and he position of your finger on the trigger.

I shoot my wife's P226s' and never had a bite.
I am also guessing it is a short reach trigger that is your problem. I had the same problem with my M11-A1.
Switched to an Armory Craft slightly curved, dual adjustable trigger. Problem solved, and the trigger action is far superior, well, for me at least.
You could just put a standard trigger on there, if you can find one . Seems to be out of stock everywhere. I think it is around $60, .
I could not find one and went with the AC. Right now AC does not have the slightly curved trigger in stock but they do have the flat one if that interests you.
Thanks for the replies. It's a standard trigger on a standard P226. Just to make sure I tried a friend's, also a standard P226, and the same thing. So I tried dry firing at a LGS and even dry firing bit my finger, also the standard P226. I put my finger about halfway, like the photo shown, so I get bit at the tip and near the joint too, 2 for 1. Can't post photos because one was a rental, one is a friend's, and one was from a LGS. I was thinking of buying one, but after being bit I'm not too sure anymore.

P226 comes with two different triggers a Short reach style like the first photo and a standard trigger like the second. The short reach will not “bite” but it can sting slightly. If you are getting bit, you are doing something very wrong.

Your finger should be no further wrapped around the trigger than this. My finger is slightly to far around due to me taking the picture at a weird angle. Also if the trigger is “crashing” into the rear guard something is also wrong. There will be a release of pressure once the trigger comes off the sear. Just how hard are you jerking on that trigger? Also the trigger should not touch the rear of the guard. There is a gap.. not a big gap, but a gap none the less.

I had the pinch with my M11A1 and switched out the curved trigger for the GG flat style.
