Hey Guys and Gals just trying to vent and i need some guidance......

my FFL sucks.....there a busy store with 3 employees today I was in there for 1 hour and 20 minutes for a transfer..... the other FFL emailed all there stuff 3 days ago....he helped 2 other people, took 4 minute phone calls.... I had to call the buyer and get the FFL info....

my question is....... Can an invidual send a handgun himself to an FFL???? can i cut the middleman out FFL to FFL....

No transfer should take that long...... 1 hour and 20 minutes is insane...

What were the other employees doing? Did You have to fill out the 4473 ? If So Why Did he or another employee not give You one while waiting ?
I use a private FFL, friend of a friend that became a friend. Usually $20.00 for a transfer, one was free even. Ten minutes for the transfer, 20-30 minutes to bs… Only bad thing is he’s close to an hour away from me. You can look on gunbroker and get a list of everyone local to you. Shop around.

The answer is maybe. An individual can't send a pistol through USPS. You will have to check FedEx and UPS as they seem to change rules. Currently if you go to send your Sig for service you get a FedEx label and send directly to them and they return directly to you.
This will also depend on the receiving FFL. Some won't accept a shipment from an individual. I think some have the notion that they are an exclusive club and try to spread the wealth to other FFLs. This happens with 03 license holders, so many won't take an 03 even though it is perfectly legal. I think they see it as cutting out their buddy or something. Other times they are just lazy or actually don't know the law.

Here is a little about it. I don't have any association with this website. It just covers most of the points for you. Remember to always check state/local laws where it is going first.

yes i wasnt picking up.....when you send no 4473 is necessary
Make sure the receiving FFL will accept firearm shipments from private citizens (non-FFLs)...many will not not. Mine here in TX does not, only accepts from another FFL...something to check before you send.
You would have to check with the receiving FFL. Shop I work at accepts individual sent transfers as long as a copy of the senders ID and phone number are with it so we have a contact in case of a problem. The ID is so we can log into our records book who we received the firearm from. I do know other dealers in this area that don't accept guns shipped from individuals.

Get a new FFL, deal with it, or have your buyer take delivery from you to your FFL. It’s completely legal, I’ve done it many times. Now done FFLs don’t line receiving a transfer from a non FFL but that is their problem.

^^^^ This!

When you go to ship yourself, your options will be limited. By law, a private individual cannot ship a handgun by USPS. (Although you can ship long guns). FedEx changed their policy to only allow FFL’S to ship guns — which leaves you with UPS. They require all guns to be sent Next Day Air/Saver, which is usually in the $150 range.

I’ve never tried using ShipMyGun…I know a lot of people do. Not sure of the risks involved, but the price is certainly lower. But as @Sig P220S said - be sure to check that the receiving FFL accepts shipments from private individuals.
Same was happening to me as well my closest LGS was 5 minutes away and had tons of product but was a very busy location and always had 3-4 or 5 to 6 people working and was extremely difficult to get help because of being busy and most people buying guns for the first time had tons of questions. Now the FFL issues UPS/FEDEX would shoot me an email saying it was delivered to LGS and I would call asking if I could get my transfer and was told “NO” will call you when ready to pick up……OMG always a 3 to 5 day wait!

Switched to another LGS 15 minutes away super busy as well but same day item come in get phone call to come pick up. I say all this to say just find another FFL if possible and call them and ask there FFL time frames of in/out transfers.
One reason why a FFL on the other end might not accept shipped items to be transferred from a non-FFL is if something goes wrong or the buyer refuses the item. The issue the FFL now has is he is in possession of a firearm and now must be a party in coordinating a return which must be to a FFL on the seller's end. A FFL that was previously uninvolved must now be procured by the seller. I'm fortunate to be local to Bud's in Lexington KY and all I need to do is bring in the recipient's FFL and they take care of it. Worth the fee.

I have the same deal! However, this guy lives 10 minutes away taking neighborhood streets. Usually 20 minutes to transfer, $20 charge, and then he talk, and talks, and talks, and talks! Hes a cool guy, so its no problem, but damn he loves to talk.

You don't have many options.

1. it via FedEx/UPS, but pay $100-$150.

2. Convenient location FFL, but what you dealt with.

3. Inconvenient location FFL, but better service.

4. Combination of 2 & 3: convenient location with better service.

5. Take the advice I read on here about a week ago: 'I've sent many packages of precision machined parts directly through the USPS over many years.' Nah, let's skip that one.

It is legal for an individual to ship a transfer to an FFL. It is also the right of the FFL to refuse accepting transfers from indivuduals. That would be your problem, not theirs. That is why I stated in my other post to insure the FFL you want to send it to will do it.

Seems OP was getting his local FFL to send a handgun he sold to another FFL.
