Fed Ex shipping

Got a RMA for Sig for some warranty work — instructions say to ship with FedEx and let FedEx know I’m shipping a gun .. FedEx website now says only FFLs can ship guns? Anyone recently ship a gun through FedEx?

If you tell them "what's in the box", then there's a good chance the employees will steal it. If you have a label from SIG, just ship it. If they ask, tell them it's "machine parts".

I'd call your local fedex. I've gotten a lot of different feedback. There might be a distinction between actual fedex stores and their outlets.

Did SIG provide you with a FedEx shipping label? If they did they are the shipper (FFL) and the receiver (FFL). Slap the label on the box and call for a pick up.

Yup. It's that simple.

I've returned a firearm for warranty before. Different manufacturer but same process. A UPS label was sent via email link and I made my package, attached the label and dropped it off UPS headquarters (as it was the instruction from the manufacturer). Nothing complicated.

You're not supposed to drop it off at any hub or store location. You should take it to the main hub in your area. At least that's how I had to do it. Nobody asked me what was in the box. They just confirmed it was the main hub in the area for me.

I shipped a trap shotgun to Kommiefornia a couple months ago. I insured it for 9,000.00. I told the FEDEX employee what it was and there was no problem. The employee even marked the box fragile, and this side up. Very helpful. Yes the gun made it fine. Better than the service with UPS.

Shipped a gun to S&W for repair via FedEx with a shipping label provided by S&W. Told the clerk there was a gun inside and she didn't bat an eye. Off it went and about 4 weeks later S&W shipped it back to my house repaired. Adult signature required.

Late last October, just in time for Christmas, FedEx changed their policy. Worse, their website continued to say it was allowed for non-licenseholders to ship to gunsmiths and FFLs until January. I spent hours on the phone, going through their outsourced Asian support which repeatedly lied to me, until I finally spoke with somebody in their legal office who explained the change was made and implemented and was in the carriage contract - they didn't care if the website wasn't fixed. This cost me several hundred dollars as I had auctions where FedEx was to be the shipping method, and I then I had to ship via UPS.

Even though federal law permits private individuals to ship firearms to themselves, to gunsmiths, and to FFLs, FedEx and USPS do not allow it. UPS still does, but for non-licenseholders, they require handguns to go next or second day, which is cost prohibitive.

In effect, they've dramatically curtailed our ability to engage in commerce and raised the cost of gun ownership, further pricing the poor out of options.

The only option is to go through an FFL, or as written above, a label making the recipient the shipper and you just an agent of the shipper. Sig Armorer insists on FedEx, but this is not explained on their website. I am in Texas, so I was going to ask him if I could use LoneStar Overnight, which is much cheaper than FedEx or an FFL, but if he gives me the label, I guess it doesn't matter as long as I don't have my talkative nephew deliver it to the FedEx drop-off.

The crazy thing is, if you find an FFL willing to ship (not easy), they will send it USPS or FedEx without telling them it's a gun (totally legal), but for a fraction of the cost, plus their fee.

As you might imagine, this is a hot button with me. I am still fuming about it.

I sent in a pistol for warranty work two weeks ago and received it back already. The manufacturer created a FedEx label which I printed off. They told me to say it was machine parts if asked.

I packed the pistol and case in a large FedEx box and dropped it at one of their local stores. Was asked what was in it, and I told them machine parts…..there was absolutely no problem.

Just make sure the manufacturer pays for insurance…..

If an FFL ships a firearm through the USPS, and wants to remain in compliance, the shipment must be accompanied by PS1508 "Statement by Shipper of Firearms". This documents the shipment as a firearm and is held at the Post Office of origin for one year. The FFL doesn't get any special pricing for it - normal USPS rates apply.

^^^^^^ This. You're "supposed" to tell then you're shipping a gun. I don't.
I think they'd steal you gun in a heartbeat if they could. :(
I would bring it to the distribution center as opposed to having it picked up. One less chance of it falling off of the truck.
Sig provided the label .. dropped it off at fedex store .. the unloaded pistol was in the original case it came in but I put bubble wrap around the case to hide the Sig logo and anything else showing it was a gun .. the guy asked what it was and i said machine parts .. he definetely seemed skeptical and picked up the bubble wrap case and thought he was going to open it but he gave it back and I put it in the fedex box they provided .. im guessing they hear the machine parts explanation a lot !

That's really funny! I'm sure they do get that explanation a lot!!! LOL LOL 😂

The post office really has to keep taht doc for a year?? For what purpose? I would assume for the feds or ATF!! Is that correct?? I really can't think of any other reason, doesn't mean there is not one!!!
