Dry Fire Training System?

1382 Views 17 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Jiffster
Looking to get a dry-fire system. Been looking for a while and hesitating because I don't like the idea of having to rack the slide after every shot...PITA plus training scar IMHO.

So I come across this CoolFire system where you use CO2 to reset your slide. It does require you to replace your barrel with their lighter barrel while practicing.

Seems like it would work in simulating the real deal, but it's expensive. I guess it's justifiable given the cost of ammo, the wife and I went through 1000 rounds like nothing the past week or two, and that was $300+ right there.

Looking for input - anyone on here using this?
TIA

I use the Mantis Laser Academy system.
Do you have battery life issues
I use Mantis Laser Academy with the Elms .357 laser cartridge. Buy Laser Academy first.

Will be buying Mantis X10 Elite shortly. I will use this with live fire practice.

I have had no battery issues.

Both product are different. The x10 everything has to be perfect. With laser academy it’s the result that matters

I totally understand that they are different. Laser Academy is typical dry fire/cell phone target practice. Which is what the OP was asking about.

BTW, Elms laser cartridges ship with additional replaceable "primers" etc. which I deemed to be better than the Mantis.

I understand that Mantis X10 Elite is used in live fire practice to show where and what you are doing before during and after each shot.

Can you further describe how the X10 is used and if you find it useful?
I use the X5-for trigger control grip and sight picture. I use laser academy for speed and putting it all together

Did you ever purchase the Coolfire? Looking into this myself as most of the other laser training option require a slide rack between shots. I don’t want to pick up that habit!
I've got Mantis and I like it.
I purchased the Cool Fire system for my P320 Full Size, and find that it works very well. When fully charged, the recoil very closely simulates live fire with 9mm range ammo. Since the barrel is the CO2 reservoir, the recoil impulse diminishes with each shot. I estimate that I get 5-10 shots before I notice a drop in the recoil impulse, and another 5-10 shots before I need to recharge, which takes about 2-3 seconds using a soda stream bottle. The Soda Stream bottle is supposed to give about 2500 shots.
You also get two orange “followers” that slip over the factory magazine follower to allow the slide to reciprocate freely. It is easy to slip on/off if you don’t have an extra dedicated magazine.
Be sure to order extra striker tips, especially if you use the barrel a lot, as the striker tips will wear out.
I highly recommend the system, and I only have two regrets: 1- I don’t use mine as much as I should, and 2- I wish I had ordered one for my P226 at the same time as they are not available currently for the P226.

Thanks so much for this reply! I may go with the Cool Fire...

I haven't been able to find anything relating to the "X5" system. Can you point me in the right direction, please?

Thanks!
