I don’t know it only has the serial number on the frame. I called Sig about it and was told, they don’t have computer records that go back that far.

I’m really curious of the First serial number. If the P239 started with all ones, this would be the 27th made.

From the Green site:
SA1001X------????-grips dated 8-95 = Watergoat SA1001x grips dated 8-95

The grips are dated the same 10/95 like the magazines. I guess that means there were over a thousand made in the first 2 months.

That's pretty low. SA10001 should be the first one.

Was there any kind of change when it went from SA to SA4 in the serial number?

SA is the prefix for 9mm frames. SA4 is the prefix for the .40/.357 frames. Originally the .40/.357 frames used the SA prefix as well (there were some S4 prefixes also). Then at some point early on SIG switched to the SA4 prefix. As far as I've been able to tell, the SA4 prefixes fall in line with the number on the SA prefixes. So you might have a 9mm batch that ends in SA 95001, then the next batch of .40/.357 frames might start SA4 95002.

Thanks. That makes sense with the 357/40. Not sure about the sequence though. Your 9mm with SA 098XXX was built a year after mine SA4 110XXX if yours is the correct build date.

You occasionally see some serials out of order. The green site has a much larger list--take a peek. It also seems there were times when the frames may have sat on the self at SIG for some time, then SIG "discovered" them, and made complete guns much later than the serial number would indicate.

Remember the only difference between the 9mm and .40/.357 frames is the magwell.

And……The slide serrations are different between the 9mm and 40/357. Quickest way to ID a 9mm.

My German Frame two tone starts SA4 136XXX
My German frame starts SA4 96 xxx. Guess that’s a mature 239…….
