I called sig and they said my build date was March 15 2018. I've noticed some parts labeled gen 2 or 3 and even some gen 1 parts. I'm thinking I'm gen 3 but would like to hear from someone who knows for sure. Here's a picture if it helps

I haveThree different P238 and none of the parts in them say anything about Generations. Of The extra parts that I purchased some have a R after the part number signifing Gen 2 The build dates are 03/2016 11/2016 and 08/2018 Why would You think there is a Gen 3 ? None Of the parts i have are marked Gen 1,2 or 3.

On midwestgunworks.com there are some parts labeled gen 2 or 3 and there's a spring kit from mcarbo that is for gen 1. Now I know some of the generation stuff has to do with a newer or older style main spring housing but I was hoping someone knew exact dates or years production wise for the different gens. When I called sig they said the info for my p238 doesn't say anything about generations so idk. But I have heard that some companies make changes but then don't make it known, I guess it would be admitting the former design was insufficient or poor design.

There were some problems (nothing Big) with P238s and P938s made before 2013. According to what You said, I thought the partson the gun had the Gen 1,2 and 3 markings. I've never seen an OEM Bag/Box with a part in it say Gen 1,2 or 3 on it I have over $4K worth of parts for My 19 Sigs not counting magazines. As dfor pistols yes like a Gen 2 SAS P239.

Yea hopefully I'm over thinking it. Probably am.
Back around fall of 2019 I was interested in purchasing a "new old stock" P238 which was for sale online. At the time I knew that parts like the recoil spring, main spring, mag release, etc. went through small revisions since the P238 was first launched back in 2009, so naturally I wanted to make sure that this particular P238 had all the latest parts installed at the factory. I called SIG customer service up to get some answers, and I was basically told over the phone that as long as the P238 was manufactured AFTER the second half of 2017 that I'd be good to go. Since yours has a manufacture date of March 15, 2018 you should be fine. And if it's any comfort I've owned a P238 with a 2018 build date before (model 238-380-BRG) which never had any reliability issues.
