Since my serious photographic equipment still uses film, all I have is a 5 megapixel point-and-shoot for digital. I only use it for tasks, rather than actual photography. I'm going to have to get a pro digital camera system soon. But I digress... I was able to get one shot that is somewhat usable. But it still doesn't do justice to the chrome-lined barrel.

I had to really screw with the color, brightness and contrast on the first photo to try and show the barrels in as natural an appearance as possible.

Picture is of 3 P226 9mms. All are factory new. The only time they've been fired is at the factory test firing. I have not yet shot them but I have cleaned them.

On the left it a Sig P226 Scorpion 9mm with a standard stainless steel barrel.
In the middle is a Sig Mk25 9mm with Phosphate-coated barrel.
On the right is a Sig P226 Combat 9mm with the hard-chrome lined barrel.

The MK25 phosphate barrel in the center is a very dull gray in color. It looks kind of like it has been painted in a dove gray color flat paint that has been scuffed up. It really looks almost like it had been painted at some point and then fired a couple of times.

The standard stainless steel bore in the Scorpion on the left has a little gray appearance but when you see it in person, it is obvious that it is uncoated stainless steel.

The hard-chrome barrel in the Combat model on the right looks (in person) almost like a mirror finish. It is bright and shiny. It looks dark in the images because it is doing such a good job of reflecting the flash away from the lens like a mirror. In fact, you can see where the Nitron external coating was unable to stick to the slick chrom on the crown of the barrel. But even in this crummy photo, you should be able to see that the chrome-lined barrel in the Combat model on the right is brighter-looking, or slicker-looking, than the bare stainless steel bore in the Scorpion on the left.

I hope that this helps in making a visual identification of the bore finish in other Sigs. :)

if you could shoot from a lower camera angle, it would be easier to see the difference.

New Photos.

This time the Combat's bright hard chrome-lined barrel is on the left, the Scorpion's moderately-shiny standard stainless steel barrel is center, and MK25's muted gray phosphate-coated barrel is on the right.

Even with Sig you may need a little fitting done. But often not from what I understand.

Seems like Sig lacks consistency. I have two black MK25's both made in October 2013. The barrel in one is identical to the chrome barrel you are showing in your Combat model. The other looks like your black MK25.
Not trying to sound rude at all, just curious. Are you sure you aren't mistaking the dull grey for a chrome lined barrel? Or is it no doubt clearly a chrome lined barrel. I'm asking this because I'm looking to pick up a MK25 within the next day or so, and I'm wondering how easy it was for you to tell. Was it clear that one was a dull gray and one was a brighter chrome? I've just heard people say that a chrome barrel looks like it was spray painted silver, or a grey color. Thanks for your time. I appreciate the thread guys. The pictures are helpful, it's just tough to see what the chrome barrel looks like in the pics.

Hard chrome is not bright and shiny like chromed car bumpers are. It is an industrial hard, wear resistant finish, not a decorative finish.

Does the dealer where you are looking to pick up your MK25 have any other Sig pistols you can look at? Very, very, very few, if any other Sigs will have chrome lined barrels. Just compare them.

So I just called sig, and they said they don't ship any MK25's with hard chrome barrels. He said the MK25 internals including the barrel are all phosphate coated, which gives the barrel a grey color. I guess I should have just called them first before trusting people online saying that their MK25's came with hard chrome barrels. He said they are probably mistaking the gray finish on the MK25 phosphate coated barrel for a chrome barrel. Please if anyone thinks they got a MK25 with a chrome barrel, I'd like to see a picture. They don't even sell the hard chrome barrels as an after market part.

Sig says the only gun that ships with a hard chrome barrel is the combat model. He says the phosphate coated barrel is just as durable. Thanks for your help gderf.

FINALLY! Somebody at Sig Customer Service knows what they are talking about on the MK25 barrels. And my chrome lined barrels on my P220 Combat and P226 Combat are pretty darn bright and shinny compared to other barrels.

Though - while I haven't seen one - I have heard enough anectodal evidence to believe that some black MK25s may have been shipped with chrome lined barrels during the run on guns after the election.

Well suh-prise, suh-prise, suh-prise... Sig tossing a bunch of parts together to get Frankensigs out the door. Good, at least I know that mine isn't the only one ;)

I got a "special configuration" too. LOL! But I like it. A P226 .40S&W built on a MK25 frame with E2 grips. I'm going to swap the grips and get the SRT installed. I want SRT added to several. I got the Signess real bad!
I would really like to become a certified Sig armorer on the classic P series guns.

My MK25 is phosphated on the exterior and chrome lined, just like they should be.

I don't think anything is 'cleared up'. A whole other big long thread determined that a tiny "c" on the case label means chrome lined barrel. Mine has that tiny "c" on the case label. Yet, my barrel looks "different", as can be seen in the photo. Maybe in some guns the appearance of the chrome gets altered by a process in the manufacturing. I don't care either way. It will last longer than I need it to.
