Bedside/Nightime self defence weapon of choice?

6588 Views 98 Replies 82 Participants Last post by  AIRB0RNE6176
What do you use for a "bedside" or "night stand" self defence weapon? Revolver? Semiautomatic? Caliber?

I can use one of my 9mm p320s with good self defence ammunition, but I am considering a .357 magnum Ruger GP100 revolver. Thoughts?

my staccato p is the nighstand gun. i'd use something you can put a light on, and see if you can take a low light class to practice with it

The weapon with the highest percentage of one shot stops is a shotgun. That would be my weapon of choice.

Right now it is a Sig P320 X-Carry with 18 rounds of 147 grain Federal HST and a Streamlight TLR-1 HL. Used to be something in .40 but I like having more capacity and a full size grip for the house.
Traditional SA/DA 9mm with light, out of sight but easy to grab before getting up, which I will use if needed to get 2 steps to a concealed, suppressed MP5 clone (9mm of course) with a light and 2 30's.
Benelli M4

I try to get mine up on my shoulder a little more than this guy does.

That's some nice guns for bedside... God forbid you have to use it......then turn it over to L.E. and hope and wait to get it back. Been there done that, got the t-shirt also.

Guns are like parachutes. As long as they do their job, I can live with not getting them back. I assume I will ge them back, but if not, I will move on. Surviving is the main objective.

P226 with RXP slide, light, and extended magazine. And of course, a Remington 870 shotgun to back it up.

No experience like yours but my instructors remind me of this all the time. And they said if it does return, chances are the weapon is going to banged up badly.
Oh well, you have to protect your castle / ward with the best weapon you train with. I'm re-emphasizing another member's comment (on another identical thread) regarding the weapon of choice for night/bed defense.
Full size P320RX, 21rd mags, suppressed with surefire XC2 laser/ light.
