Anyone know why or what this is etched inside a P239 slide?

It’s an older 9mm made around 10/95 from the dates on the magazines and grips. I was cleaning up and noticed the etching, looks to be done by hand. It’s possibly 8301? It also looks to be done before the finish was applied.
