Have the opportunity to purchase a lightly used p220 DAK. I felt like the initial price of 750 was a bit high but I do want to add this to my collection so thought I should ask about opinions and possibly more insight to this pistol. I'm not to keen on DAK for the sole reason that I'm used to DA/SA pistols. However this might be a good addition. To the collection. I've tried to get pics with lots of info.

Welcome, and it all depends on what you are expecting! DAK is a modified Double Action Only, that many in Law Enforcement used the past couple of decades. With practice, it is a decent action for defensive use, with a longer but lighter double action pull (6.5#). If you are expecting short single action shots with short reset, then you will be disappointed, but for around $200 plus shipping, Sig will convert it. You could do it yourself, but the parts alone may exceed $200, considering shipping.

It looks like your photo presentation got away from you, and from the Michigan State Police publication, either that's where you live, or where the pistol came from.

I need to add, that $750 is indeed too high, in my opinion, by at least $200. If it was DA/SA, then the asking price would be more believable.

I have seen P220 carry models in the 7 to 8 hundred range lately and they usually fetch a little more than the full size. The double action only and DAK pistols are usually 10 to 20% below a comparable DA/SA. Full size P220s are in the 5 to 7 hundred range these days depending on condition and what is included. Some people do like the DAK action but if it were going to be my only 220 I would keep looking. If you stick around here for a little while and participate you will gain access to the for sale ads and there are plenty of deals to be had there. That is if you are quick enough.

Welcome aboard! This is a bad place if you are looking to buy a gun. Too many enablers around here.

I would say unless you have lived with one you should try the DAK system for more than a few shots before you decide. I have come to like the LEM trigger from HK, but could not warm up to the DAK for all my effort. I borrowed one for quite a while and never got comfortable with it through several hundred rounds and several range sessions. I actually avoided the LEM for a long time after that thinking it was too similar. I was wrong.

That is not a pitch for HK. The stand DA/SA or even an SAO I would prefer over the DAK.

That's just me.
If you know a smith that can properly tune a DAK, you’ll probably like it. Robert Burke comes to mind.
Just curious, did that have the MSP logo laser etched on the top of the slide just forward of the rear sight? I’ve seen several of their former duty guns have this, and my 228 that was a MSP came with it.

I do not recall seeing that, but I will take another look at this evening and report back.

So far, 50 rounds through and I don't think I love it.

Unfortunately, the $750 initial purchase price was too high, especially considering it's $200 to convert to DA/SA. Now you're left with what to do. I'd bite the bullet, and send it to SIG for the DA/SA conversion. It's not an ideal situation, but at least you'll have a gun that you enjoy to shoot.

Fortunately for me, I have not yet purchased this gun. It caught my eye from a local friend/ffl when purchasing a couple other items. It's on loan, I've cleaned it, lubed and am going to return it to him. That is unless I can get it at $500.
At least you got the chance to try it, so now know what's involved with the action. While it may be fine for defensive work at closer ranges, not optimum for longer range work in most folks opinions.
