Action not locking open after the last bullet in the magazine about 50% of the time

Hi all, new here as of about 5 minutes ago... love this place! Have a new p365 which will sometimes lock open after the last bullet is fired.... and sometimes not... no rhyme or reason. Gun is clean... very well taken care... have issue no matter what ammo I use... is this something where I would need to send the gun back to Sig to have it looked at?

Thanks all!

What kind of ammo, specifically?

How many rounds through the gun, exactly?
Welcome to SIG Talk.

You certain you're not hitting the slide lock with one of your thumbs? That would be my first suggestion to check.

Welcome from Colorado. Are you sure you don't ride or bump the slide lock lever?
Is problem with only one mag or several? Check mag spring tension.

Yes... I have done that a few times, and did a simple tap, rack, and fire... but this issue is different...the lock does not open, so I assume there is still ammo in the mag, when I pull the trigger ... its a dead pull and change mags.... other than that the gun works perfect... just don't want do be in a situation where I pull a bad trigger and regret it lol. Thanks again for your helps and thoughts.

Thank you .... yes... pretty sure... have put about 300 rounds thru it... has worked fine up until lately.

Seems to be an issue with any mag I use unfortunately.
Try shooting it with only your left hand and see if it still happens.

As suggested above, any unconscious bump on the slide lock lever can do that, as can ammo issues. If you work through various possibilities (including shooting with left hand, etc.) and still have the problem, call Sig customer service. If within a year of purchase, they'll send you a prepaid label to ship your P365 to them, and will test to reproduce the issue. If they find a problem, they'll fix it. If they don't, you can troubleshoot further knowing nothing fundamental is wrong.

Good luck! And welcome to the forum, a lot of good people and awesome knowledge here.

Do you dry practice with it? If so, has it not locked open on any mags? If it always locks open, shoot some left hand only like phylers13 said.

Stop riding the Slide lock. It happens a lot more than you think

Try running a minimum amount of light oil on the slide rails.
I pretty much had to train my strong hand thumb to point up and float in the air. I was either pushing my hand off the gun or my support hand grip placement was not good enough to hold on to the gun in recoil and when the gun came out of my support hand, my strong hand thumb moved over to the slide release.

I've changed up my support hand grip to something more solid but but keeping the thumb floating and touching nothing has become a reflex to ensure my slide locks back even if my grip fails.

As someone else stated.. Shoot lefty for a few mags. If your slide locks back every time you know it's you. If it doesn't and the gun is clean and lubricated, then it might be a part that needs replacing or better cleaned.

Thank you (y)
Welcome! I've hardly ever had a slide lock open on an empty mag with any SIG or Glock I've shot in the last 20 years, because of how I hold them. At this point if a slide locks back at the end of a mag I get shocked and wonder what's wrong with the gun. :ROFLMAO:

Interesting... new to Sig and thought it might be a manufacturing defect issue... but perhaps not? Thank you for your insights. I originally thought it might be the ammo but ruled that out as well... using Federal Hollow Point 124 grain. Thanks again!
