Hi all!

New member & Sig 716 owner. I'm wondering if anyone has hands on experience with putting a 516 upper on a 716 lower. I've read that the inverse (716 upper on 516 lower) should work, but does that automatically mean both rifles are completely interchangeable (obviously with different mags)?

Also does anyone know of any list of uppers (various calibers) that I can use on my 716 without alterations? I'm looking for maximum versatility on a single platform.

No a .223 upper will not fit your 716. The .308 cartridge is longer than the .223 so the mag well is longer. This means the take down pins are farther apart on the .308 and they are not interchangeable.

As far as changing calibers on your 716 there are some companies that make uppers in .243 and a few others but honestly your not really gaining anything as reliability and other fitment issues can arise. A .308 gun is best left .308.
