That's my setup with the Harold Leight slim muffs. One or the other just didn't seem to be enough to me, but with both I can turn on the Leight muffs when I want to have a conversation and it works out perfect.

Get something that's actually rated for the workplace.
I'm paranoid about losing hearing acuity.
Don't listen to the overly - manly, testosterone - laden demon sitting on your shoulder calling you a wuss...
...be as much as a wuss as you can when protecting your senses.
Once your senses start getting dull, you don't regain what's been lost.
